An extremely rare sighting of a solo Emperor Penguin on the Antarctic Peninsula. We grounded our zodiac on the ice and made a wide arc around to gain a move favorable position. Surprisingly, we were able to get within throwing distance before the Emperor stood up and glanced at us, seemingly unfazed before it casually dropped down and began to slide along the ice inland. Unfortunately a lone Emperor at this time of year would have little chance of making it back to its colony, this image is likely the last that will every be capture.
